You booked a Scoot fare and received the confirmation email, so it might feel like everything is sorted. But, it is not. Scoot uses a “pay-for-what-you-need” model, and issues often show up after booking. Many travellers report unexpected baggage fees, unconfirmed seats, and frustrating refund experiences.
This guide explains how to properly manage your reservation and avoid last-minute problems at the airport.
Scoot offers four economy fare types. Fly includes a seat and a 10 kg cabin bag allowance (up to two pieces). FlyBag adds 20 kg of checked luggage. FlyBagEat includes a meal. ScootPlus offers 30 kg checked baggage, priority boarding, WiFi, and meals. Your fare choice affects changes, fees, and what you can claim if something goes wrong. Booking the cheapest Fly fare and expecting full service flexibility often leads to problems.
Many travellers book Fly and assume checked baggage is included. It is not. FlyBag is a separate fare. Before using Manage Booking, check your confirmation email for your fare type and compare it with Scoot’s fare rules. This simple step can help you avoid extra charges later.
Go to Scoot and find “Manage Booking” in the top navigation. You’ll need your booking reference (a six-character code like “ABC123”) and the lead passenger’s last name.
No account needed, but logging in with your KrisFlyer details gives you a smoother experience and keeps your booking history in one place.
The Scoot app (iOS and Android) does everything the website does, and it’s faster for adding last-minute extras. It also supports Apple Pay and sends push notifications if your flight is rescheduled genuinely useful if you’re connecting through Changi.
You can change your flight date or time up to 4 hours before departure. Fees apply, plus any fare difference if the new flight costs more. You cannot change your destination. Interline bookings with partner airlines also cannot have origin or destination changes. Some promotional fares do not allow changes at all, so always check your fare rules first.
A common issue raised on the Australian Frequent Flyer forum involves separate bookings. One Melbourne traveller booked two Scoot flights separately because mixed fare classes were not allowed. When the first flight was rescheduled, the connection failed. Scoot treated both tickets as separate and charged a high fee to change the second flight.
Avoid booking connecting flights on separate tickets. If your trip includes multiple Scoot flights or a partner airline, book them in one reservation whenever possible. Separate bookings offer no protection if schedules change. Scoot does not cover missed connections in these cases, and this is clearly stated in their fare rules.
Checked baggage is not included in the base Fly fare. You can add it through Manage Booking at any point before online check-in closes, and pre-purchasing is always cheaper than paying at the airport.
One common and costly mistake. Once, a traveller on TripAdvisor’s forum reported paying for baggage on the outbound leg of a return trip, not realising they had to tick a separate baggage box for the inbound leg. Scoot’s system treats each direction independently. The result was roughly $200 in surprise airport fees.
We’ve seen this trap catch out return-trip travellers more times than we can count. When you add checked baggage in Manage Booking, Scoot’s system does not automatically apply it to both legs of a return journey. You have to select and confirm it for each direction individually. Check the booking summary carefully before hitting pay.
Basic seats are available through Manage Booking. More comfortable options like Super Seats with extra legroom and adjustable headrests, and Stretch Seats in the front row, cost extra. On Boeing 787 Dreamliner routes such as Singapore to Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, or the Gold Coast, standard economy pitch is about 31 inches. It is manageable, but not spacious for a long flight.
A common complaint on Skytrax involves seat issues. One passenger paid for a front row Stretch Seat but was not assigned that seat, and the claim was disputed.
Before you travel, save your boarding pass and seat confirmation to your phone’s camera roll. Do not rely only on email. If airport WiFi is slow or the app fails, having a screenshot helps you quickly resolve seat issues at the gate.
Online check-in opens 72 hours before departure and closes 1 hour before. This is available for Australian departures from major hubs like Perth, Sydney, Melbourne, and the Gold Coast.
If you’re travelling with checked baggage, still get to the airport early, bag drop closes 60 minutes before departure, and boarding gates close 20 minutes before. Scoot does not make exceptions for passengers who checked in online.
Passengers booked through a group travel agent, unaccompanied minors, and those requiring special assistance cannot use online check-in.
Scoot does not offer a 24-hour grace period for cancellations on most fares. Promotional fares typically carry no refund. One Australian customer on ProductReview.com.au received AUD $1,710 back for cancelled tickets, but waited months and was still chasing an AUD $448 seat selection refund with no resolution.
Under Australian Consumer Law and ACCC guidelines, if Scoot cancels your flight, you are entitled to a remedy, either a refund or alternative travel. Keep every email and reference number if you ever need to escalate to your credit card provider or a consumer tribunal.
We recommend this for every Scoot booking: pay by credit card, not debit or PayPal. If a refund dispute drags on, and some do, as Australian passengers have found, a credit card chargeback through your bank is a legitimate option under Australian banking regulations. Document every contact with Scoot’s customer service, including the date, time, and name of the representative if possible.
Scoot introduced a fixed-rate award chart with KrisFlyer in August 2025. One-way economy Saver redemptions now start from 1,500 miles. A Perth route can cost around 6,500 miles compared to 21,500 miles on Singapore Airlines for the same trip.
Miles only cover the base fare. You still pay cash for seats, baggage, and meals. To earn miles on a Scoot flight, add your KrisFlyer number before you complete the booking. Adding it later often does not work.
Scoot works well if you understand its model. You get a basic fare and choose the add-ons you need. It was named the world’s best long-haul low-cost airline at the Skytrax World Airline Awards 2025.
The downside is that mistakes get expensive. Travellers have reported extra baggage fees, problems with separate ticket connections, and slow refund handling. Knowing your fare type, selecting baggage for each leg, and saving confirmations offline can make the difference between a smooth trip and a costly mistake.
